India managed to draw their last group match vs. Afghanistan. Match ended in 1-1 draw. India took the lead in the match as Afghanistan goalkeeper Ovays Azizi scored an owned goal, soon Afghanistan scored the equalizer goal.
India’s coach Igor Stimac was pleased with India’s performance in recent qualifiers matches, he said although we have lost 500 days because of pandemic, still have managed to secure a place for next round of qualifier match. Igor Stimac believes India needs to have more players like Sunil Chetri who are quality strikers. Igor Stimac also expressed disappointment over lack of relegation system in Indian Super League, he gave some suggestions as well, and how India can get quality strikers.
All India Football Federation of India also decided in its meeting which was held on 18th June 2021 to extend the contract of Igor Stimac till September 2021. Igor Stimac contract had expired In May 2021.
