IPL 2023: FINES IMPOSED ON PLAYERS TILL NOW

Tata IPL 2023 began on March 31. There are 10 teams in IPL 2023 and the matches are organized in a home- away format. From the date of IPL’s beginning people have been supporting out their favorite teams and these teams need to follow some rules. IPL Code of Conduct needs to be followed in the matches. Breaching of such rules may result in penalty. Some teams and players are fined and penalized for their acts. Here’s is the list of fine imposed till now in IPL 2023:

1. KKR’s captain Nitish Rana and Hrithik Shokeen MI’s off-spinner:

Nitish Rana captain of Kolkata’s franchise has been fined 25% whereas Hrithik Shokeen Mumbai’s off-spinner is fined 10% of their match fee. This was after breach of IPL code of conduct. This was during their on-field brawl at Wankhade Stadium on Sunday in the first innings of KKR vs MI match. As per the statement issued by IPL, Rana is fined to Level 1 Offence under Article 2.21 whereas Shokeen to Level 1 Offence under Article 2.5.

In the very first ball of the 9th over of KKR vs MI, Rana came down the wicket to smash Shokeen but he completely missed his shot. As Rana was dismissed and was departing, Shokeen’s gesture fueled the Kolkata captain. He had a go at the bowler, pointing his fingers and showing angry gestures. The umpire and the other MI players had to interfere. In addition to Hrithik Shokeen, stand-in skipper at that time, Suryakumar Yadav was also fined for a slow over-rate from his team.

Despite the fine imposed Suryakumar Yadav would be happy with his team’s performance as they beat the visitors KKR. MI defeated KKR by five wickets achieving 186 runs. Venkatesh Iyer scored a ton which all went in vain.

2. Hardik Pandya fined Rs 12 lakhs:

In the 18th match of the IPL 2023, Gujarat Titans came back from a shocking loss against Kolkata Knight Riders. They secured it with a win against the Punjab Kings in the last over of the match. The match was at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. With the win, Hardik Pandya led GT climbed to the 3rd spot on the IPL points able 6 points and 4 games. However, the win also came at a price as skipper Pandya had to pay a fine.

The BCCI has issued a fine worth Rs 12 lakhs on Hardik Pandya for maintaining a slow over rate in GT vs PBKS. Since this was his team’s first offense he was fined Rs 12 lakhs. It was team’s first low overrate offense so the fine sanctioned is Rs. 12 lakhs as per an IPL media advisory issued on Friday.

The time to end an IPL match is around 3 hours 20 minutes. Several matches this season have crossed this time and went past the 4 hour mark. Previously Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals too were fined for slow over rates. Thus Hardik Pandya is the third captain to be smashed with such offences.

GT vs PBKS:

Coming back to this match, the Punjab based franchise batsmen failed to score big in the first innings. Punjab Kings could only gather up a score of a target of 58 with Matt Short getting the highest runs of 36. Mohit Sharma (Veteran Indian pacer) also stole the show for Titans with the ball finishing figures of around 2/18 in his 4 overs.

Batting in the other half, the Gujarat based team extended the game until the last over despite of a big 67-run knock from Shubman Gill. However, Rahul Tewatia held the match till the final over to hit a 4 and registered a 6-wicket win for his team, Gujarat Titans.

3. Ashwin and Sanju Samson in CSK vs RR match:

Rajasthan Royals all-rounder player Ravichandran Ashwin has been fined for his inappropriate comments on the consistency of umpiring decisions in the match. Ashwin was at odds in the match with the umpiring decisions made in RR’s thrilling match with CSK. CSK lost this match Wednesday (April 12). The replacement of the ball without the bowling team’s suggestion baffled Ashwin and he questioned the fairness of the umpire’s call.

His comments have now invited fine for him as he was issued a 25 per cent fine of his match fee. It was for the comments against the match umpires. As per press release, Ashwin is added to the level 1 Offence under Article 2.7 of IPL’s Code of Conduct.

Captain and skipper of Rajasthan Royals (RR) Sanju Samson became the second captain to be fined in the IPL 2023. Before him Royal Challengers Bangalore’s captain Faf du Plessis was fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during their win over CSK. This match was held at Chepauk on Wednesday night. Just like Du Plessis, Samson’s first offence of the season will be fined as Rs 12 lakh.

Ashwin has been performing well for the RR this season. He has picked up 6 wickets till now and was declared player of match in their victory over CSK. Rajasthan currently leads the Tata IPL 2023 points table with 6 points after 4 successful matches.

4. Faf Du Plessis and Avesh Khan in RCB vs LSG:

RCB’s skipper Faf du Plessis was fined a sum of Rs.12 lakh. This was after his team was found guilty as per IPL code of conduct. RCB maintaining a slow over-rate during their IPL match against Lucknow Super Giants.

Lucknow Super Giants won the match by one wicket off their last ball. LSG’s No. 11 batter Avesh Khan, in excitement of the win, flung his helmet after taking the winning run. This invited a reprimand for him from the match umpire.

Avesh Khan also had to face trolling on social media for his celebration after scoring the winning run in the last ball of the match. It was one of the most the exciting matches in IPL history. The 26 year old was penalized to level 1 offence 2.2 of IPL’s Code of Conduct. He even accepted the sanction.
