A one-sided finals match as the Indian women’s team defeated Sri Lankan women’s team by 8 wickets with 11.3 overs to spare to lift up their 7th Asia Cup title crown at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet, on Saturday, October 15.

Sri Lanka women’s captain Chamari Athapaththu won the toss for Sri Lanka and opted to bat first against India in the final  match of Women’s Asia Cup T20 2022. The match was played at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium at Sylhet.

Chasing a target of 66 runs, India cruised to a score of 71 runs for two wickets in 8.3 overs, in a perfect one-sided affair. Opener Smriti Mandhana hammered an unbeaten half-century, clattering 51 runs off 25 balls completing 18th half century in T20I tournaments. Initially, Sri Lankans were crushed over by Indian women bowlers and could only post 65 runs for nine wickets in 20 overs, with Inoka Ranaweera remaining unbeaten even after registering 18 runs off 22 balls in the match. Meanwhile, Renuka Singh was in hot form today and took three wickets for team India in the match. Sneh Rana and Rajeshwari Gayakwad bagged two-wicket hauls respectively for Harmanpreet Kaur’s side in the match.

Chasing 66 runs, India was off to a solid start as they managed to score nearly half of their target runs before spinner Inoka Ranaweera dismissed Shafali Verma (5 runs off 7 balls) after which the batter was stumped by the wicketkeeper Anushka Sanjeewani in the title clash match. Jemimah Rodrigues was the next batter on the crease and she was bowled by Kavisha Dilhari for just two balls after her off stump was dislodged while she attempted to come forward to hit the ball.

Deepti Sharma clinched the title of the Player of the Tournament award and she told in the post match conference that she was really happy with the way the team performed as a unit from the first game till today. She explained that they executed what was discussed in the meetings and she just backed her strengths and those things that helped me a lot in this tournament as well as reaching here. The wickets were slow and before this tournament, she also worked a lot on her batting skills and those sessions really helped her. This win gives the team a lot of confidence for going into the upcoming series and they feel motivated.

Renuka has been adjudged the Player of the Match and after receiving her award she mentioned her happiness because in the last few games she didn’t bowl well and her practice with her coach and the staff  really helped her get back to rhythm.
