Indian women’s team put up brilliant show in Olympics hockey. Indian women’s team finished fourth in the competition, they lost the Bronze medal to Great Britain by 4-3 margin. India team had beaten Australian team in the quarterfinal match by 1-0 margin and created one of the biggest upsets in the Olympics hockey history. Indian team had also beaten South Africa and Ireland in the group matches.
Indian team had lost the semifinal match to Argentina by 2-1 margin, but they had put fighting show in every match whom they played, they earned appreciation as well from every team they played against especially in the knockout matches. Indian women’ team found new players which could play a major role in order to help team win a medal in the next Olympics.
India’s Vandana Kataria became the first Indian player of women’s hockey team to score a hat trick in the Olympics, she had scored three goals.
Before the Olympics started, no one came the women’s hockey team the chance of even reaching the quarterfinals stage even, but the women’ team proved them wrong and played highly skilled hockey. Indian team was ranked 10th when Olympics started but after the Olympics ended, they have reached the eight position in the hockey rankings. This is the just the beginning of the better times to come for Indian women’s hockey. Surely this performance of the women’s hockey team would inspire the young girls to take up hockey in our country as a profession.
