India suffered defeat in Friendly Football Tournament

Vietnam Defeat India in friendly match

India suffered a 0-3 defeat in the hands of hosts Vietnam in their second and final match of the Hung Thinh Friendly Football Tournament at the Thing Nhat Stadium on TuesdaySeptember 27 in Ho Chi Minh City.

India were punished for defensive sloppiness for the first two goals, one in each half of the game. The third goal ended any hopes of the Indian team mounting a late comeback to the game. The opening exchanges saw India getting off on the front foot, winning the first corner of the game, one that Sunil Chhetri swung in for Anirudh Thapa, who was lurking inside the six-yard-box, but the ball evaded the Anirudh Thapa.

It was a reality check for the 104th ranked team Indian after their three convincing wins in June in the Asian Cup qualifiers and a 1-1 draw against Singapore in this tournament on Saturday as they were literally outplayed by the 97th ranked Vietnam in the second half of the game. Phan Van Duc (10th), Nguyen Van Toan (49th) and Nguyen Van Quyet (70th) scored for Vietnam to a no reply game from the Indians whose defenders had a mediocre outing, especially in the second half of the game. The Indians, however, were on equal terms in the first half of the game only to be blown away in the second half which led to Vietnam winning the tournament with two wins in the tournament.
