Australia won the T-20 world cup being held in UAE. New Zealand was put into bat by Australia and had scored 172 runs for loss of 4 wickets. Kane Williamson was the top scorer for New Zealand scoring 85 runs, Martin Guptill and Glenn Philips also played cameos of 28 runs and 18 runs respectively. Josh Hazlewood was the pick of the bowlers for Australia, picking up 3 crucial wickets and restricted New Zealand to below par score of 173 runs. Australian opener David Warner gave Australia a flying start scoring 53 runs of 38 balls. Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell led Australia to victory in the end, Mitchell Marsh was highest run scorer for Australia scoring 77 runs off 50 balls and he remained unbeaten till the end, Glenn Maxwell scored unbeaten 28 runs off 18 balls. Trent Boult was the pick of the bowlers for New Zealand picking up 2 crucial wickets.
Australia team did not start as the favorites for the tournament. They played brilliantly as a unit, they bowled well, batted well and fielding was excellent. Mattew Wade was the game changer for Australia the semifinal match against Pakistan, scoring 4 sixes in one over of Shaheen Afridi and sealing the match for Australia. Adam Zampa also played his part picking up 5 wickets in league match against Bangladesh. Every Australian played his part in the world cup that showed the strength of Australian team and mental strength of winning big matches and big tournaments.
David Warner was the awarded man of the tournament in T-20 World Cup 2021 and Mitchell Marsh won the man of the match award in the world cup final match against New Zealand.
New Zealand could be proud of the way they played the world cup given their weakness in the Asian conditions, still they were able to reach finals. There were lot of positives for the New Zealand team players like Daryl Mitchell played crucial knocks at tough times for the side, and Kane Williamson was at its best as always. Trent Boult, Tim Southee, Ish Sodhi all picked crucial wickets for New Zealand during the T-20 World Cup.
T-20 Cricket World Cup 2021 edition was successful given the challenges of Covid times and Bio Bubbles. Credit must be given to BCCI, ICC and Emirates cricket board for holding successful event and bringing smiles back on cricket fans face after a long time.
Next T20 world cup would be hosted by Australia in 2022.
