15th edition ended with newbies Titans as the winners of the IPL title.

Gujarat Titans won the IPL 2022

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 ended with debutant Gujarat Titans (GT) lifting the maiden trophy by defeating inaugural champions Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Sunday, May 29 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, this year was the 15th edition of the professional Twenty20 cricket league established by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), commenced on March 26 with the battle between last year’s finalists Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

This season came with two new teams Gujarat Titans (GT) led by Hardik Pandaya and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) led by KL Rahul. Both the debutants had an incredible game play in this season which made this season an excellent debut season. Lucknow Super Giants were tied with Royals on 18 points at the end of the league stage, but their net run rate meant they finished third, and had to play the Eliminator round, which they lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Rajasthan Royals with a score of 130/9 in 20 overs (Jos Buttler 39, Yashasvi Jaiswal 22; Hardik Pandya 3/17, R Sai Kishore 2/20) lost to Gujarat Titans 133/3 in 18.1 overs (Shubman Gill 45 not out, Hardik Pandya 34; Trent Boult 1/14, Yuzvendra Chahal 1/20) by 7 wickets.

Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson won the toss and elected to bat against Gujarat Titans in the finals of this tournament. Jos Buttler, this IPL’s leading scorer, scored high for them. Hardik Pandya stole the show as Gujarat Titans treated their home fans in Ahmedabad with the IPL 2022 triumph on Sunday. The Titans outplayed the Royals at a packed Narendra Modi stadium with more than a lakh people by seven wickets. It was quite a one-sided finale as GT played brilliantly. For Pandaya’s brilliance with the bat and the ball in the game, he was also awarded the man of the match. Rashid Khan handled his part for GT in the best way possible. In eight overs in the two playoff matches (against RR), Rashid conceded only one boundary, that too was a misfield. More incredibly, there were zero boundary attempts made against him. 20 percent of an innings is too long, but Rashid left Royals no choice. Opener Shubhman Gill remained unbeaten on 45 and finished the match with a six and with 11 balls spare making the new IPL franchise lifting the trophy in their very attempt.

Telling about his next goal, the 28-year-old Pandaya said, “Absolutely to win the World Cup for India no matter what happens. I am going to give it everything I have. Always been the kind of guy to put the team first.” Further adding, he said, “It has always been a pleasure for me to represent the country, Long term, short term, I want to win the World Cup no matter what happens.”

With Gujarat Titans win in their first season, Hardik has won the IPL trophy five times. He was previously part of Mumbai Indians’ victory in 2015, 2017, 2019 & 2020.
